A group of Young University of Tasmania and Australian Maritime College students have pulled together to strike a balance between surfing and studying and have started a student club with a difference.

“Our first surfing event, the Chocolate Barrels Surf Challenge was planned to be held at Tam ‘O’ Shanter Bay between the 17th of May – 8th of June, but the weather has been beautiful over the last couple of weeks. Because of the nice weather there hasn’t been any swell, so we going to hold the competition down the East Coast on Sunday the 8th at Scamander Rivermouth.” Said Andy Hartley, President of L.U.S.T

“Tam ‘O’ Shanter Bay produces some really good waves on its day, but this time of year it can be difficult to predict the swell. On the other hand, the surf on the East Coast has been “going off” lately. So it makes sense to hold the competition in the best possible waves” Said Hamish Wilkinson, L.U.S.T Event Organiser.

“A lot of students have been studying quite hard with exams just around the corner, so this competition is going to be a great opportunity to put down the books take some time off, catch some great waves and discuss exam techniques with fellow students”. Said Andy Hartley, President of L.U.S.T
