“Whitlen takes out the L.U.S.T Chocolate Barrels Challenge”
“East Coast turns it on for L.U.S.T.ing sufers”
NAME OF EVENT: L.U.S.T Chocolate Barrels Surf Challenge
DATE OF EVENT: Sunday 8th June, 2008
LOCATION: SCAMANDER RIVERMOUTH, Scamander
On Sunday, Cameron Whitlen (Gold Coast, QLD) claimed the L.U.S.T Chocolate Barrels Surf Challenge, which was held at Scamander Rivermouth. After scoring a gnarley barrel ride in the final, posting a score of 7.5 out of 10 he sealed the victory to beat James Mc Kean (Marion Bay, TAS) by 2.5 points.
“It was a pretty close final, I chose to sit on the inside closer to the shore to catch the waves that were breaking better on the sand bar. James got a really good wave early on (in the final) but was unlucky to land his 360 floater. I think if he landed that, you would be talking to him not me.” Said Cameron.
James held the lead for the final for the first 5 minutes of the 20-minute final, but was unable to beat Cameron’s high scoring barrel ride.
“It was really good surf out there and I just couldn’t land a couple of tricks which isn’t a good thing to do in a final. Cameron surfed well all day and I’m stoked to have come second. I think it was a really well run event and I look forward to the next event – The Salty Oyster East Coast Classic, held at the end of July” said James Mc Kean.
Tom Hudson (Gold coast, QLD) took out 3rd place with Guy Mc Clean (Perth, WA) taking out 4th place.
The event also included another 3 dividions Open Women Shortboard, Open Men Longboard and Open Men Bodyboard.
